The Brisbane South Division of General Practice (BSDGP) is dedicated to improving the capacity and resilience of general practice to efficiently respond to clinical, commercial and community changes and to assist general practice to raise its professional standing and profile in both the local community and entire health sector.
The number of GPs practicing within the Divisional Boundary fluctuates between 350 370 GPs. These GPs work out of 97 practices, approximately 75% of which have fewer than 3 Full Time Equivalent GPs.
The population of the Division's geographical area consists of people of a wide variety of ethnic and cultural backgrounds, with migrants making up just over 25% of the population. This cultural diversity is reflected in the GP workforce with 21% of GPs coming from non English speaking backgrounds. The Divisional average GP/population ratio is 1:690.
There are four public and five private hospitals located within or near the Divisional geographic boundaries. There are also community health, adult mental health and child and youth mental health facilities located within the Divisional area.
A considerable number of privately practicing medical specialists and allied health professionals are also located in the area. Private radiology and pathology services and domiciliary nursing services are also readily available for Division GPs and their patients. |
