GPET
GPET's Vision and Mission
To foster and implement regionally-provided, high-quality, innovative, responsive and coordinated general practice education and training, which meets the needs of communities, individuals, registrars and general practitioners across Australia.
The needs of communities across Australia for high quality medical care are met by a world-class, responsive and collaborative system of general practice education and training.
GPET Statement of Expectations
The Minister for Health and Ageing intends to prepare an annual statement of his expectations (SOE) of GPET, which sets out his main priorities for the year ahead. This is common practice for Commonwealth departments and has recently been extended more broadly to other Government-owned agencies such as GPET. The SOE does not set out everything that GPET is responsible for, but instead gives a public indication of the Minister's particular priorities.
It is customary for agencies to respond to the SOE with a statement of intent (SOI) that sets out how the agency intends to address the Minister's priorities, as set out in GPET's SOI. As with the SOE, the SOI is not exhaustive.
What is Australian General Practice Training (AGPT)
Australian General Practice Training is a postgraduate vocational training program for medical
graduates wishing to pursue a career in general practice and/or rural and remote medicine in Australia.
The AGPT program is a three or four year full-time registrar training program funded by the Australian Government.
