The Coroner's Act has recently undergone some major changes and these
changes have taken effect as of Jan 1, 2010. Please find attached herewith a
summary of changes (pages 3-4), of note is the Issuance of Death Certificate
by a Medical Practitioner.

KEEP UP THE FIGHT AGAINST CERVICAL CANCER

TWO WEEKS LEFT to ensure you have enough GARDASIL stock to protect all the eligible women in your clinic.

The Government funded HPV vaccination catch up program for 18-26 year old women finishes December 31.

There will be no further distribution of HPV vaccine for the catch-up program after 31 December.

Key points

1. The Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) has approved the use of Panvax (multi-dose vials) for people aged 6 months and above.
2. Practices may now start vaccinating children aged 6 months and above with Panvax (MDV).
3. The TGA has also approved the use of Panvax Junior (pre-filled syringe) for children aged 6 months to less than 3 years.
4. Distribution of Panvax Junior is expected to commence shortly.
5. While two doses of vaccine are recommended for children under 10 years of age, one dose may provide a good protective boost against pandemic influenza.

.The restriction of Gardasil is due to the winding down of the young adult HPV program and the restriction of MMR is due to a current global shortage of the vaccine.

As per usual practice, the State Vaccine Centre will be closed over the holiday period except for emergency deliveries:

- The last pick-up for deliveries made by refrigerated transport before Christmas will be Friday 18 December for delivery on Monday 21 December;

- The last pick up for country and remote areas will be Monday 21 December for delivery Tuesday 22 December;

- To ensure delivery before Christmas, orders should be sent to the State Vaccine Centre by Friday 18 December;

- The next regular pick up in 2010 will be Monday 4 January for delivery on Tuesday 5 January; and

- The normal 24/7 emergency cover will still operate over the holiday period.

Australia's medicines regulator, the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA), has today approved the use of Panvax(r) H1N1 influenza vaccine to include children aged from 6 months of age.

In addition, the TGA has also approved Panvax H1N1 Junior(r) influenza vaccine specifically for use in children aged from 6 months up to 3 years of age. The TGA approved the use of Panvax(r) H1N1 influenza vaccine in children, and Panvax H1N1 Junior(r), following analysis of paediatric clinical trial data.The TGA approved Panvax(r) H1N1 influenza vaccine on 18 September 2009 http://www.tga.gov.au/alerts/medicines/h1n1vaccine.htm for use in adults and children over 10 years of age.

Panvax(r) H1N1 influenza vaccine and Panvax H1N1 Junior(r) are manufactured by the Australian company, CSL Limited, using the same processes as those used to manufacture seasonal influenza vaccines.

NOW TAKING REFERRALS – ITEM 713

WHAT is the Lifestyle Modification Program?

  • Provided by accredited health professionals (diabetes educators, exercise physiologists and dieticians) it involves 10 hours of small group education over six months.
  • Patients learn about healthy eating, exercising and staying motivated.
  • It involves moderate physical exercise and supports participants in making lasting changes.

WHO is eligible for the subsidy?

  • If you have billed a 710, 713 or 717 and the patient has scored ≥15 on AUSDRISK (but DOES NOT have diabetes) they can attend the program for only $50.00 with UNSW Lifestyle Clinic and $10 with Diabetes Australia – NSW (full cost is $264.00).
  • Health care and concession card holders receive the course for free.

HOW To Refer?

  • Fill in the AUSDRISK and General Practitioner Referral Form (PDF on website)
  • Call the Division on 9389 0874 for a Diabetes Unique Identifier (DUI) and fax the referral to the Division on 9387 4175 for processing
